JEZ GRAY (Musical Director)

Jez has a wealth of experience to bring to the Jazz Orchestra through being a gigging musician for over 25 years and having taught music in a high school context nearly as long as that in both the UK and Australia. His career and experience have been varied and full, connecting with the music scene on a deep level wherever he has been based. More recently Jez has been an integral part of the local live and recorded music industry as a busy double bassist, keyboardist and arranger with numerous high profile musicians from both the mainland and the Island, connected with the jazz world and wider afield too. As Music Director of IWYJO, Jez is responsible for all decisions of a musical nature including choice of repertoire.

JIM THORN (IWYJO Director)

Jim is a well known local Solicitor and musician. From 2012 onwards he has been involved in organising Newport Jazz Weekend which is now one of the most successful small jazz festivals in the UK. He has organised and run many jazz events on the Island, and has created many opportunities for other local musicians. In his own right, he has (with his trio) often accompanied some of the biggest names in the UK jazz scene including Alan Barnes, Mark Nightingale, Dennis Rollins, Martin Shaw, Derek Nash, Karen Sharp, Tim Kliphuis, Jacqui Hicks and many more. Jim decided to form IWYJO in the Summer of 2017 and is responsible for its overall organisation including seeking sponsorship/funding and guiding the direction

JACQUIE TARRY (Treasurer)

Jacquie deals with the majority of IWYJO administration behind the scenes, deals with all of the paperwork at rehearsals, and is also our Treasurer.
